ఈ ఎపిసోడ్‌లో కృతజ్ఞతలు ఎన్ని రకాలుగా తెలుపొచ్చో తెలుసుకుందాం.

Yes! You already know 'thank you' or 'thanks' or 'cheers' but there are other ways to say 'thank you' depending on who you're talking to. 

సౌమ్య 
Exactly. Dan ఎదో పార్టీ ఇస్తున్నారు. చాలామంది పార్టీకొచ్చారు. వాళ్లందరికీ Dan ఎలా thanks చెప్తున్నారో చూద్దాం. ఇంతకీ దేనికి పార్టీ?

a)    Happy birthday, Dan!
b)    Cheers! Thanks a lot for coming. 

a)    Happy birthday, Dan!
b)    Thank you! I’m so grateful you came.

a)    Happy birthday, Dan! Here's your present.
b)    Oh wow, how kind! I really appreciate it, thanks.

విన్నరా? పుట్టినరోజు. పార్టీకొచ్చినందుకు వాళ్లందరికీ ధన్యవాదాలు తెలుపుతున్నారు.

OK, so let's look at some of the ways Dan used to say thank you. Listen to the first conversation again: 

Dan
a)    Happy birthday, Dan!
b)    Cheers! Thanks a lot for coming.

సౌమ్య 
'Thanks a lot' అన్నారు.  'Thanks very much' అని కూడా అనొచ్చు. 

Sam
And after 'thanks a lot' or 'thank you very much' you can use 'for'. 

సౌమ్య 
'Thanks for coming' అన్నారు. వచ్చినందుకు కృతజ్ఞతలు అని. ఇక్కడ '-ing' form తరువాత for వాడారు. But you can also use a noun, can't you Sam? 

Sam
Absolutely! So you can say 'thanks for coming' with '-ing' or, 'thanks for the present' with a noun. Let's practise that, repeat after me: 

‘Thanks a lot for coming!’

‘Thank you very much for the present.’ 

సౌమ్య 
Great! ఇప్పుడు ఇంకో విధంగా ఎలా చెప్పారో చూద్దాం.

Dan
Thank you! I’m so grateful you came.  

సౌమ్య 
'I'm so grateful' - నేను చాలా కృతజ్ఞుడిని అన్నారు. This is a more formal way of saying thank you. 

Sam
And, instead of 'grateful' you can use 'thankful', which has the same meaning. And 'grateful' and 'thankful' are adjectives so you can make them stronger. Dan said 'so grateful' but you can also use 'very' or 'really'.

సౌమ్య 
ఎందుకు కృతజ్ఞతలు తెలుపుతున్నామో చెప్పాలనుకుంటే grateful తరువాత కారణం కలిపి చెప్పొచ్చు.

Yes, let's practise that together: 

‘I'm so grateful you came.’

‘I'm very thankful for the present.’

చివరిగా ఏమన్నారో చూద్దాం.

Oh wow, how kind! I really appreciate it, thanks.

సౌమ్య 
'I really appreciate it' నిజంగా అభినందిస్తున్నాను అని అన్నారు. ఇది ఎక్కువ కృతజ్ఞతాభావాన్ని సూచిస్తుంది.   

Sam
Yes, so let's practise saying it: 

‘I really appreciate it.’ 

సౌమ్య 
Thanks, Sam. సరే మళ్లీ ఒకసారి ప్రాక్టీస్ చేద్దామా? మీ ఇంటికి భోజనానికి మీ మితృలు వచ్చారు. వెళుతున్నప్పుడు వాళ్లకి thanks చెప్పాలి. మీరు వచ్చినందుకు కృతజ్ఞతలు అని చెప్పాలి. ఎలా చెప్తారు?

Thank you for coming!

సౌమ్య 
Good! వాళ్లు మీకోసం ఒక బొకే తెచ్చారు. దానికి మీరు grateful వాడి చెప్పాలి. ఎలా చెప్తారు?

I'm so grateful for the bouquet of flowers. 

సౌమ్య 
Well done! ఇప్పుడు 'appreciate' అనే పదాన్ని వాడి చెప్పండి. 

Sam
I really appreciate it. 

సౌమ్య 
Great! So now all that remains for us to say is 'thank you very much for joining us today'!

Sam
Yes, we're very grateful you're here!
