ఇవాళ మనం మన అభిరుచులు, ఆసక్తులు, ఇష్టాయిష్టాల గురించి ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఎలా చెప్పాలో తెలుసుకుందాం. ఎవరైనా మనల్ని ‘What are your interests?” అని అడిగారనుకోండి. జవాబు ఎలా చెప్పాలి? ఇవాళ నేర్చుకుందాం. ఈ ప్రశ్నకి ముగ్గురు వ్యక్తులు ఎలా జవాబిచ్చారో చూద్దాం. మీకు పూర్తిగా అర్థం కాకపోయినా కంగారు పడకండి. నేను మీకు సహాయం చేస్తాను. 

I'm interested in all types of art, but Ilike photography the most.

I'm very keen on sports! I really like anything with a ball.

I’m really into comics. Superhero comics are my favourite. 

సౌమ్య 
So, did they have anything in common? 

Sam 
No, they all had completely different interests!

సౌమ్య 
Right. మొదటి వ్యక్తికి కళలు అంటే మక్కువ. ముఖ్యంగా ఫొటోగ్రఫీ అంటే ఎక్కువ ఇష్టంట! రెండవ వ్యక్తికి స్పోర్ట్స్ - క్రీడలంటే ఆసక్తి. బాల్‌తో ఆడే ఏ ఆటైనా తనకి ఇష్టం అంటున్నారు. మూడవ వ్యక్తికి కామిక్స్ అంటే ఇష్టంట! ముఖ్యంగా సూపర్ హీరో కామిక్స్ అంటే చాలా ఇష్టం అన్నారు.

But how do we know that these are the things they like?

మంచి ప్రశ్న. వాళ్ల ఇష్టాలను తెలుపడానికి వివిధ పదబంధాలను వాడారు. సాధారణంగా ఎక్కువమంది వాడే పదం ‘like’. మొదటి ఇద్దరు వ్యక్తులూ ఈ పదాన్ని ఎలా వాడారో మళ్లీ విందాం.

I like photography.

I really like anything with a ball. 

Sam
Easy, right? They both used the verb 'like'! And you can change 'like', so you can say 'I really like' something to make it stronger, for example. Now let's listen to speaker one again. What does he say before 'all types of art'? 

I'm interested in all types of art. 

సౌమ్య
'I'm interested in' అని చెప్పాక, మనకి ఎందులో ఇష్టముందో ఆ నామవాచకం చెప్పాలి. 

Sam
Yes, 'interested' is an adjective, so we need to use the verb 'be' before it, and we use 'in' after it – always. Let's practise – repeat after me: 

‘I'm interested in art’.
‘You're interested in sports’.
‘He's interested in comics’.

Thank you, Sam. రెండో వ్యక్తి స్పోర్ట్స్‌లో తనకున్న ఆసక్తి గురించి చెప్తూ ఒక మంచి పదం వాడారు. గుర్తుందా?

విన్నారా? Keen అన్నా ఆసక్తి అనే అర్థం. 'interested in', 'keen on'..ఏదైనా వాడొచ్చు. ఈ రెండూ కూడా విశేషణాలే! 

Sam
Quick practice! Repeat after me:

‘I'm keen on art’.
‘You're keen on sports’.
‘He's keen on comics’.

Yes! మూడో వ్యక్తి 'comics' కు ముందు ఏ పదం వాడారు? 

I'm really into comics. 

సౌమ్య
ఇక్కడ ‘into something’ అంటే అందులో మునిగిపోవడం అనే అర్థంలో చెప్పుకోవచ్చు. దాని తీవ్రత పెంచడానికి really గానీ, very గానీ వాడొచ్చు But this expression is generally quite informal, isn't it, Sam?

Yes, it's used more when speaking. Let's practise the pronunciation. Repeat after me: 

'I'm into art'.
You're really into sports'.
'He's very into comics'.

Nice. ఇప్పుడు పరీక్షా సమయం. మీ ఆసక్తులేంటి? 'interested' పదం వాడి వాక్యం చెప్పండి. తరువాత Sam కూడా చెప్తారు. విని మీరు సరిగ్గా చెప్పారో లేదో చూసుకోండి.
