ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਮਵਰਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਅਸਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ?

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾcould you please? ਕੀ 'please' ਲਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ?

We can say 'please could you' or 'could you please' – it doesn't matter. But do notice that it is more polite to use 'could' than 'can' here.

When we want to sound polite, intonation is very important. In the request we heard the intonation rose, and then fell at the end. Listen and repeat – try and copy the intonation.

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ 'hand' ਹੱਥ- ਕਿਉਂ?

'Lend a hand' is an idiom – and it means 'to help'. We also had 'would you mind' which is a way of requesting something. 

Listen to the pronunciation here – the 'd'  joins to 'you' which sounds like 'd'you'. Repeat after me: 

Would you mind?

Yes, also notice the modal verbs here – 'would' and 'could'. 'It would' often becomes 'it'd'. Listen:

'It would be great if you could…' is another polite way of asking someone to do something. As we said before, 'it would' becomes 'it'd'. Here are some more examples of how we use the structure: 

It'd be great if you could help me.

It'd be great if you could show me that.

ਕੁਝ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੈਮ ਵੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਸੁਆਲਾਂ ਦੇ  ਜੁਆਬ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ। ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ 'picture' ਲਈ ਮਦਦ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀਂ 'could' ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਪੁੱਛੋ?
