ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਕੁਝ ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਸਵਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਸ਼ਾਪਿੰਗ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੁਆਬ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਕਦ ਖਰਚਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੈ, ਧਿਆਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਕੁ ਖਰਚਿਆ। ਚਲੋਂ ਆਪਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੁਗਤਾਨ 'cash' ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ 'card' ਰਾਹੀਂ।

3. A.     Do you take card?
4. B.     No, sorry. We only take cash.

ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਨਕਦ ਸੀ। ਪਹਿਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਸੁਣੋ। ਉਸਨੇ ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿੰਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਪੁੱਛੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ'excuse me' ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਵੇ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੀਮਤ ਪੁੱਛੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ 'how much' ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿਹਾ, 'how many' ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ?

We use 'how much' with uncountable things – yes 'money' is uncountable!

Let's look at the pronunciation of this – there are two things to remember. First, to sound polite, only stress the 'scuse' in 'Excuse me', and secondly – notice that the 'much' and 'is' in 'how much is' join together to become 'how much is'. Repeat after me:

ਪ੍ਰਸਨ ਵਿੱਚ 'is' ਕਰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ। ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੋ ਅਸੀਂ 'it is' ਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਚਾਲ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ 'it's' ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Yes, remember that the order of the subject and the verb is not the same for the answer and the question!

ਇਥੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ 'take' ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ?

Take in 'do you take card?' means accept. We could also use it to ask about different currencies, - "Do you take dollars?" 

Listen to the pronunciation here – 'Do you' often sounds like 'D'you' and 'We only' has a slight 'y' sound in between the words. Repeat after me

ਇਹ ਲੱਗ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਲਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਆਫ਼ਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

'Would you like' is often used to offer someone something. In a shop it could also be used for things like 'Would you like a bag'. We could offer a drink to a friend "Would you like a coffee?"

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ? ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਨੇ ਗਾਹਕ ਦਾ ਬਕਾਇਆ 'change' ਦੇਣ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ? ਚਲੋ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Both people used expressions with 'here' – the customer said 'here you are' and the shop assistant said 'here's your change'. It's what we say when we are giving someone something.
