ఇవాల్టి ఎపిసోడ్‌లో ఎవరైనా మనకి ఏదైనా ఒక వార్త చెప్పినప్పుడు ఎలా స్పందించాలో తెలుసుకుందాం. David, Megan మాటలు వింటూ మన కార్యక్రమం మొదలుపెడదాం. వాళ్ల సంభాషణ మొత్తం మీకర్థం కాకపోయినా కంగారు పడకండి. నేను మీకు సహాయం చేస్తాను. ప్రస్తుతానికి David ఏం వార్త చెప్తున్నారో వినండి. దానికి Megan ఎలా స్పందిస్తున్నారో జాగ్రత్తగా గమనించండి.

David
I’m nervous. I'm taking my driving test this afternoon!
Megan
Good luck! Hope it goes well.

David
The driving test was terrible. I failed!
Megan
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Better luck next time!

David
The driving test was fine this time. I passed!
Megan
Well done. Congratulations!

So David డ్రైవింగ్ టెస్ట్ కి వెళ్లారట. మూడు సంభాషణల్లోనూ David వేరు వేరు వార్తలు చెప్పారు. మూడింటికీ Megan మూడు రకాలుగా స్పందించారు. మొదటి సంభాషణలో నేను పరీక్షకు వెళ్లబోతున్నాను అని David చెప్పారు. మళ్లీ విందాం. దానికి జవాబుగా Megan ఏం చెప్పారు?

విన్నారా? విజయోస్తు, పరీక్షలో మీరు విజయం సాధించగలవని ఆశిస్తున్నాను అని అన్నారు. ఇక్కడ ‘it’ అంటే ఆ పరీక్ష - డ్రైవింగ్ టెస్ట్ అని అర్థం. What if David had more than one test? 

Sam
You would say 'they' – 'Hope they go well!' 

You can also say 'I' in 'hope it goes well', but we like to make things shorter in English, so we usually just start with 'Hope…’ 

సౌమ్య
And we don’t have to always say both of these phrases together, do we, Sam?

Sam
Oh no, you can just say one! Now, let's practise the pronunciation! Repeat after me:

‘Good luck’!

‘Hope it goes well’!

Let's listen to Megan again. This time it's bad news!

మళ్లీ రెండు వాక్యలు. ఇవి కూడా ఎప్పుడూ కలిపే వాడక్కర్లేదు. విడివిడిగా కూడా వాడొచ్చు. ఈసారి David చెడు వార్త చెప్పారు. పరీక్ష ప్యాస్ అవ్వలేదు...బాగా చెయ్యలేదు అని చెప్తే  దానికి Megan సానుభూతి వ్యక్తపరిచారు… ‘ఇది వినడానికి నేను విచారిస్తున్నాను’ అన్నారు.

…and if you want to make this stronger, say: 'I'm so sorry to hear that!'…

తరువాత 'Better luck next time' – ‘వచ్చేసారి విజయం సాధింగలవని ఆశిస్తున్నాను’ అన్నారు. కానీ జాగ్రత్త! ఈ వాక్యాన్ని ప్రతీ ఓదార్పుకూ వాడకూడదు. ఎవరిదైనా కుక్క చనిపోయిందనుకోండి. అప్పుడు ఈ వాక్యాన్ని అస్సలు వాడకూడదు.  రెండవసారి చాన్స్ ఉంది అని తెలిసినప్పుడు మాత్రమే వాడాలి.

Again, this is short. You could say 'I wish you better luck next time!' or 'I hope you have better luck next time!' They all have the same meaning.

Quick practice of pronunciation – repeat after me: 

‘I'm sorry to hear that’.  

‘Better luck next time’.

Yes! You can also say ‘Good work!', 'Good job!', 'Excellent!', 'Amazing!', 'Wonderful!'

Congratulations!' - ఇది ఎలాంటి శుభ సందర్భానికైనా వాడొచ్చు…వివాహం, బిడ్డ పుట్టడం, ఆఫీసులో ప్రమోషన్స్ ఇలా ఏ సందర్భానికైనా వాడొచ్చు. వ్యక్తిగతంగా ఏదైనా సాధిస్తే ‘well done’ అని చెప్పొచ్చు.

Absolutely! Time to practise the pronunciation. Repeat after me: 

‘Well done!’ 

‘Congratulations!’
