Matt Blaize
What is your show all about?
The nature of what it is to live in a secular society.
Where and when can we see it?
I am at the Pleasance Cellar 9.40 p.m from the 4th-30th August.
Do you love Edinburgh or is it a chore?
I hate it with a burning passion. I can't think of anything worse than to be surrounded by 1200 neurotic comics reading their reviews in your face saying, 'it's a two star review but it read like a four star, don't you think?'
What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?
I am writing a manuscript, which I had to take a break from to write this show, so when I am up there I will be trying to finish that.
What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?
Runt, a one man show which was written and directed by a black American performer. To my shame I can't remember his name. I think his first name was Michael. I ran into him last year when I went up to the Fringe for a few days. He said Paramount Pictures were turning it into a film starring him and Don Cheadle. So I guess dreams can come true at the Fringe.
What's the worst thing you've seen?
Where do I begin...I did a gig in the Fiskin and Firkin on Hunter Square at two in the afternoon. They had some second division Scottish football projecting on a big screen. The locals nearly choked on their meat pies when the screen retracted and some fella said on a P.A, 'Now it's time for some comedy with five new English comedians'. I still don't know how I walked out of that one alive.
What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?
See above.
If you could persuade one VIP to come to your show who would it be? Why?
Tony Blair. I think he should take a look at the country we are living in, told by someone on the other side of the tracks.
If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?
An audience. 20 people or more a night with a rudimentary grasp of the English language.
What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?
Don't take yourself as seriously as the comedians.
