Alex Horne
Every Body Talks
What is your show all about?
It's all about body language but it's not a show; it's a seminar. We'll be discussing my body language, the body language of the audience, Chris Packham's body language, body language around the world - all those sorts of things. There'll be live experiments, video footage and two very simple songs.
Where and when can we see it?
It's on every night (almost - not the 7th or 17th) at 10.40pm at the Pleasance Above - but not only can you see it, you can actually be part of it; it's a seminar.
Do you love Edinburgh or is it a chore?
I think you can love chores. Can a city be a chore? Can you love a city? Either way, I love going to Edinburgh and have been looking forward to it for weeks. I would say I can't wait but that's not completely true.
What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?
A mixture of things really, not just one activity. I expect there'll be some of the usual sleep and food patterns, meeting up with some people who I know, not watching enough shows and seeing if I can find a shop that sells cushions but I haven't planned any of that yet.
What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?
The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. By far.
What's the worst thing you've seen?
I'm easily impressed - I liked the film 'Bad Santa' - so I'm not sure.
What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?
I gave a £1 cheque to Robert Maxell's son on stage without knowing who he was or why the audience were booing and shouting 'the pensioners, the pensioners'.
If you could persuade one VIP to come to your show who would it be? Why?
I'm trying to get Special Guests to do a tight five during the seminar and I think people like Linford Christie, Johnny Ball and Michael Buerk would all be able to do great motivational talks on body language.
If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?
You should be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. So I'd play safe and ask for some plates or a hacky-sack. Something useful.
What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?
See lots of shows. Mostly go to shows that you've heard something good about because tickets aren't cheap. But do take a risk on a couple of things you know nothing about at all. If you're going to a seminar, bring a pen or pencil and something to lean on. A magazine is fine but a purpose-built clipboard is obviously better.
