BBC Sport breaks a digital record

BBC Sport cemented its position as the number one digital destination for sport as record numbers accessed digital services. Last week was the biggest ever week for BBC Sport online with 58.2m global unique browsers following the action from the Rio Olympics, the return of the Premier League and England’s Test match v Pakistan from around the world.

Cardiff-based Jethro Bradley has been announced as the winner of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award 2016.

Announcements and blogs

Drama

BBC One announced that fans of Poldark will have the chance to attend an exclusive St Austell screening of the first episode of the second series ahead of its transmission on Sunday 4 September.

It was also revealed that Love, Lies and Records, a brand new six-part drama series from BAFTA award-winning writer Kay Mellor OBE, has been commissioned for BBC One.

Meanwhile, Cathy Shipton (Duffy) and Derek Thompson (Charlie) feature in a BBC iPlayer exclusive Back to Ours to relive the stunts, explosions, emotional storylines and Hollywood guest stars, as they celebrate 30 years of BBC One’s Casualty.

Comedy

BBC Comedy released details of its forthcoming Sitcom Season.

In addition, it was confirmed that, this Christmas, the Olivier Award-winning Mischief Theatre will bring their smash hit play, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, to BBC One.

Entertainment

Five more celebrity contestants were confirmed for this year's Strictly line up: Presenter and former pop star Louise Redknapp, former Hollyoaks star Danny Mac, model Daisy Lowe, BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty and singer Anastacia.

Factual

A new three-part series for BBC Two will take viewers to the heart of three iconic public spaces in the city of New York, one of the most thriving, economically powerful and complex metropolises in the world in New York: America’s Busiest City.

Children's

Comedian Susan Calman is to host a brand new show which will search for Britain’s smartest school. To be shown on CBBC in September, Top Classis a fast-paced, competitive knock-out series which pits schools from the length and breadth of the U.K against each other as they answer questions designed to test them to their limits.

Radio

Melvyn Bragg is to celebrate the history and culture of the North of England in new 10-part Radio 4 series, The Matter of the North.
