Jamillah & Aladdin

CBeebies magical drama, Jamillah and Aladdin, returns to television screens for a second series packed full of laughter and adventure.

This modern retelling of the Middle Eastern Aladdin tale is a fusion of magic, comedy and adventure, and will transport viewers of all ages, to the ancient world of Baghdad, full of intrigue and mysterious encounters.

Jamillah (played by Blossom Campbell), a feisty young girl seeking adventure, lives with her family in modern day London where she discovers a dusty old lamp in the attic and makes a wish. A Genie (played by Leroy Osei-Bonsu) appears and, with the help of his magic, the two travel back in time to Ancient Baghdad. There, Jamillah meets Aladdin (played by Wilson Radjou-Pujalte), a boy the same age as her, who always seems to be getting himself into trouble.

Aladdin shares Jamillah’s courage and quest for adventure, and together they explore the streets of Baghdad. They meet the Sultan, his daughter the Princess and a rich array of Baghdad inhabitants from the simple goat herd to Samir the Snake Charmer. Occasionally, Jamillah and Aladdin meet a baddie along the way and have to get themselves out of sticky situations by using logic, quick-wittedness, and, the magical powers of their friend Genie!


Episode 1

In the first episode of the second series, The Sultan's most treasured pet - his nightingale - dies leaving the Sultan racked with grief. The Vizier then decides that since the Sultan is sad that everyone should be sad, and bans all smiling and fun from Baghdad. Jamillah decides that this is a foolish rule and that the only way to break it is to prove to the Sultan that he can be happy again. When Jamillah remembers the mp3 player that she has in her pocket she decides to organise a flash mob in the market square where more than one unlikely person volunteers to join in, all for the sake of making the Sultan smile.

Episode 2

Aladdin is arrested for a crime he definitely didn't commit, only everyone, including the Vizier, saw him do it. Jamillah arrives to find Aladdin in jail, and the Vizier says he is to be charged for stealing the key to the treasury. But Aladdin swears he was nowhere near the treasury and he has no idea where the key is. Jamillah does some investigating along with Genie and Kevin the Talking Treasure Bird and they discover that the Shapeshifter has impersonated Aladdin and stolen the key. Together they work to stop the Shapeshifter and free Aladdin.

Episode 3

Genie must have his magic inspected every so often in order to keep his license and be able to pracitise magic. Usually he's not worried but this time he finds out that it's old school rival Saadia giving the test and even worse he's not allowed to use his spellbook! Jamillah and Aladdin help him out with the tests but then at the last one Saadia puts them both in danger and says that Genie must use his magic to keep them from harm in order to pass. Genie pulls out all his best moves in order to save his beloved masters.

Episode 4

Al Cruelle, fashion advisor to the stars, comes to Baghdad to start a chicken beauty contest. Aladdin is excited to enter Warqa in for the test and is thrilled when Warqa wins. But then Al Cruelle reveals the prize - Warqa will be made into a feather cape! She snatches Warqa away and Jamillah, Aladdin and Genie must work out a way to save her. They dress up as rival fashion advisors and manage to distract her long enough to get Warqa back but then Al Cruelle's guards chase after them. Together they work to defeat Al Cruelle once and for all.

Episode 5

Aladdin and Jamillah are walking through the market when they spot their old enemy, Simsim. They run but he catches up with them to say that all he wants is to be forgiven for his past crimes and proceeds to make it up to them with presents and good deeds. They're convinced but Genie isn't, he still thinks that Simsim is up to something. The kids think that Genie is just jealous because Simsim is doing spells better than Genie ever could. But then Simsim traps Genie in his lamp and puts the kids under his spell and his true purpose for coming back to Baghdad is revealed, he wants revenge. Genie must break out of his lamp and duel Simsim in an epic magic battle if he ever hopes to save the kids and stop Simsim for good.
