Discussing the environment

If you want to discuss the environment, you need to know the relevant vocabulary. Here are some key words to help you:

Read the following passage where a young person describes some environmental problems for a news website. Notice how the above expressions are used in this piece:

Mae llawer o broblemau yn yr amgylchedd heddiw. Mae llawer o sbwriel yn mynd i’r tomennydd sbwriel achos dydy pobl ddim yn ailgylchu . Mae hyn yn ofnadwy.

Mae egni niwclear yn llygredd ac mae’n cynhesu byd-eang.

Hefyd, rydyn ni'n llawer o fwyd ac mae ’n defnyddio llawer o danwydd ffosil i ’r bwyd.

So, what are the answers? What should we do?

If you want to suggest some possible solutions, you could use the following forms:

Dylwn i… – I should…
Dylen ni… – We should…
Dylai pawb… – Everyone should…
Dylai’r cyngor… – The council should…
Dylai’r llywodraeth… – The government should…

These forms are usually followed by a soft mutation. Look at Mutations: soft, nasal, aspirate for more information.
