Higher Chemistry - Exam skillsPaper 1 - Multiple choice

Advice on tackling both the multiple choice and written papers of the Higher Chemistry exam.

Part ofChemistryExam and assignment

Paper 1 - Multiple choice

Duration: 40 minutes

Marks: 25 marks

So you have 1.5 minutes per mark!

The exam questions are contained in a booklet. There is a separate answer booklet that contains the grid for you to enter your answers.

Read the instructions on front and inside cover carefully. These tell you:

  • how to complete the grid
  • how to change your answer if you need to
  • Read the questions carefully.
  • Try to eliminate wrong answers to reduce the choice.
  • If you are unsure about an answer then put a star by the question and move on - make sure you come back to it.
  • Answer all questions.
  • If you have no idea, take a guess! You have a 25% chance of getting a correct answer.

Lots of students circle their answers in the question booklet. This can be a good idea while you are working out your answers. BUT make sure you transfer your answers to the grid.
