I only have an old tape recorder at home, is that good enough to make an entry? Yes - as long as we can hear you performance on your recording, we'll be able to judge it. It's the quality of the performance not the recording we'll be judging. Don't worry too much about how you record it, just as long as you're able to get something recorded and sent to us by the closing date.
Is it only the entry form that has to reach you by the 28th February? No - we need your recording on audio CD, cassette or mini-disc, as well as a completed entry form. It is advisable that you clearly mark your name and contact number on your audio recording as well.
Can I sing a cover of an existing song? Yes, whether you sing their own material or someone else's the main thing we're listening for is the potential in your musical performance. And it can be from any genre you choose. Original material is also more than welcome, and in the case of MCs, much more important. Whatever you do though - make sure you choose a piece of music that will demonstrate your voice or musical ability in the best possible way.
What about a song from my favourite film? Entries can be from any musical genre, so yes you can sing a song from a film soundtrack track if you feel it would best demontstrate your potential.
Should I sing with backing music? How long should my entry be? It's completely up to you, although its unlikely that we'll be able to listen to more than one track. So please ensure that the first track we hear is the entry you want us to judge you by.
My friend / cousin is a great singer - can I send an entry on their behalf? No - but please get them to take a look at the competition and encourage them to enter if you believe they have potential.
Is it o.k. to sing in any language? Yes - you can sing in any language you choose, as long as you feel it would appeal to a British Asian audience.
I only play an instrument, can I enter Unsung? Yes you can enter, but please bear in mind the nature of this competition. The competition is open to a solo artist or group who can send us a recording of a musical performance that the judges feel would do well in the British Asian music industry, and possibly beyond. A solo instrumental performance would need to be able to stand alone against other entries, and you may improve your chances if you enter as part of a group.
