Tips for your entry

Listen to Rishi Rich's tips
Listen to Nyrone Persaud's tips

Vocal Ability
Vocal technique and skill are variable depending on musical style. However, applicants must demonstrate the ability to produce a clear and well-toned pitch throughout the execution of all lyrics.

Backing tracks - solo artists
Although you can use a backing track, judges will be able to make a better judgement of your voice if you sing without accompaniment.

Backing performance - groups
If you are performing your own accompaniment as a group then the judging panel will take into account the overall performance of all the musicians taking part in addition to the lead vocal.

Cover Versions/Use of third party material

A straightforward 'cover' performance (i.e. where you do not add to or substantially alter the existing track) will not be problematic.

However, if you decide to,

a) use your own original lyrics with an instrumental of a commercially released track

b) take a sample or samples from a commercially available track and use them in your original composition

c) adapt/change existing lyrics owned by someone else to fit your original composition

then we will consider all of these as entries, but any use in connection with this contest may be subject to permission being granted by the original rights holder. If permission is not forthcoming then an alternative performance would be required in order for you to continue in the contest.

Tune in to Adil Ray, weeknights from 10, to get even more tips and advice for your entry, as throughout February he'll be finding out what it takes to make it in the British Asian music industry.
