Strikers are being warned by Stagecoach of redundancies |
Bus passengers in Devon are facing the prospect of further disruption, as union leaders plan more strike action. Stagecoach bus drivers are on the fourth day of a four day strike, and it seems likely that further walkouts will be announced this week.
The company says its staff are well paid and it has compromised enough already.
But the RMT Union says further industrial action could be avoided, if Stagecoach managers agreed to go to a conciliation service.
Drivers want an extra 57p an hour to bring their hourly rates to 6.50.
Bosses offered the figure but with conditions, including staggering the rise over two years.
Many routes have remained operational as managers have stood in for the absent drivers. Drivers have also been drafted in from as far as Scotland.
Stagecoach says about 30% of its services in Exeter, Torbay and east Devon are running.
The dispute affects about 700 staff who have already organised rallies in Exeter demanding bosses re-think their decision about pay and conditions.
