Four-day strike hits buses

This latest action runs from Friday to Monday
Drivers working for a bus company in Devon are on the picket lines again in their long-running dispute over pay.

Sunday is the third of four consecutive days of strike action which is causing the biggest disruption to Stagecoach Devon services yet.

Bus drivers have been drafted in from as far as Scotland to run services during this latest stoppage in Exeter, Torbay and East Devon.

Union officials say they are appalled by the move and are threatening even more strikes.

'Hitting profits'

Stagecoach says that about 30% of its services are running in south and east Devon

Drivers want an extra 57 pence an hour. Bosses offered the figure but with conditions, including staggering the rise over two years.

Unions say they are being bullied and the deal is not good enough.

Bosses are warning that the strike is already hitting profits and they may have to shed up to 200 jobs by the end of the summer.

The seasonal loss of jobs is normally around 30.
