One-day bus strike called off
Strikers and bus
Strikes are still planned for four days at the end of the week
Drivers working for a bus company in Devon have called off a planned one-day strike in an attempt to find a resolution to their long-running dispute.

Talks will resume on Tuesday between bosses at Stagecoach Devon and representatives of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union.

Union leaders say the one-day stoppage on Wednesday has been cancelled to try to give both sides more time to agree a deal.

The drivers were on the picket lines again on Monday for the fifth day of strike action.

New deal

Four more days of action are still planned for this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and next Monday.

The company offered a new deal to drivers at mass meetings on Sunday.

This was for the 6.50 an hour that drivers had requested.

But they voted against it because there would be no new rise until 2005 and the deal would start in August and not be backdated until May.
