Rubbish report favours one burner
Waste landfill site
It is hoped to set up a joint project for both islands
An investigation into the cheapest option to deal with Guernsey's rubbish suggests a multi-million pound waste to energy would not be beneficial.

The report found a single incinerator in Jersey could be more cost effective than a proposed plant at Longue Hougue.

The pan-island study compared costs of each island with its own incinerator to creating one burner in Jersey and shipping Guernsey's waste to it.

However, Guernsey would need a transfer station to prepare waste for shipping.

The joint team from both islands had been researching the project for nearly three months as part of an overall rethink about how the islands could deal with their waste.

A final decision on the plans is expected later in the year.
