A UK expert on waste management is advising politicians in Jersey on their future plans for dealing with the States' rubbish. Chris Coggins, a visiting professor at the University of Southampton, is on the island to make recommendations on a new 25-year waste strategy.
The independent consultant says recycling should be made easier.
A spokeswoman for the States said he is not expected to contradict the proposals before the scrutiny panel.
Increasing recycling
Mr Coggins said: "Recycling has to be accessible, it has to be easy to use.
"Very often residents in households have to be guided in terms of what is required."
The States' environment and public services committee published its draft solid waste strategy last week.
It includes plans to increase the amount of recycling on the island and also a proposal to replace the incinerator at Bellozanne which is coming to the end of its useful life.
The strategy is going before a scrutiny panel hearing on Monday.
Guernsey politicians will also be in attendance to observe the new scrutinising process of government.
