The Waterfront Enterprise Board wants to consult the public more
The Waterfront Enterprise Board (WEB) has defended the development of Jersey's waterfront.

The design of many of the buildings at St Helier, such as the housing and leisure facilities, has divided islanders.

But at the launch of the consultation process for the next phase of the waterfront development, WEB managing director David Margason denied things had been done incorrectly.

He said: "I don't think it has been done the wrong way at all.

"But now is the first time that this scheme can be tested. We have got 25% of the scheme complete.

"Only now can you step back and say what has been completed and how do we feel about it.

"I think that's why we are getting a full range of reactions now, because it is the first time we can measure those things."

The WEB wants to involve the public more in the development process, with quarterly public meetings, a newsletter and a group to represent businesses and residents in the area.

The WEB is a limited company owned by the States of Jersey and set up in 1996 to oversee the development of the St Helier waterfront.
