Police earmark new headquarters
Waterfront
Jersey Police have been seeking a new headquarters since 1996
Jersey Police say the waterfront is the best site on the island for a new headquarters.

The Home Affairs Committee decided on the location last week, after seven years of negotiations.

In 1996, the police decided they needed a new headquarters because their current home at Rouge Bouillon is shared with the fire service.

Deputy Chief Officer Roland Jones said it was too cramped.

He said maintenance costs on the old building were also high.

Good access

He believed the new site on the waterfront was perfect.

"It is right in the centre of our operations from a public order point of view.

"It also gives good access, both east and west on the island, and it is available," he said.

The choice has yet to be approved by the States, and it is thought the move will not happen for another five years.
