Post complaints line 'should be free'
Guernsey Post van
The group said there are still daily problems with the postal service
A free phone line should be provided for those wanting to complain about Guernsey's postal service, according to a Guernsey consumer group.

Guernsey Consumer Group says there are still daily problems with deliveries around the island.

Chairman of the Group's Postal Sub-Committee, Stephen John, says such a system would help Guernsey Post address some of the problems

He added that it was an "insult" to islanders to expect them to have to pay to report problems with the service.

"Absolute insult"

"In the last week or so we have had quite a lot of people contacting us with complaints," said Mr John.

"Because it's important we find out how effective and efficient the service is, we feel the provision of an 0800 number might help resolve those problems.

"We feel it is an absolute insult to people to have to pay to tell the post office about their mistakes," said Mr John.

He said the complaints ranged from simple problems to mail being delivered to the wrong address.

He said there was also concern about the perceived quality of service people were getting from customer services in the post offices themselves.
