Guernsey Post's decision to close its Arcade branch is being criticised by consumer campaigners. They say the closure has affected elderly people who relied on the post office and find it difficult to travel further afield.
This is despite a report from the Office of Utility Regulation (OUR), which said the closure had not resulted in a poorer service for customers.
The OUR argues the closure was justified, as it says islanders have access to similar services at other premises close to the Arcade.
It adds people can also make use of the improved facilities at Envoy House.
Survey call
However Steven John, chairman of the Consumer Group's postal sub-committee, said the closure had caused inconvenience for some older islanders, who found it harder to get out and about.
In particular, he said it had made life more difficult for people living in the Trinity Square part of town.
He suggested Guernsey Post could help by having an office near this area which could open for just two or three days a week.
He said: "It's difficult to fault the logic of the regulator's report on the closure of the Arcade Post Office.
"But the regulator did not receive the information to carry out a full investigation of that closure.
"It assumes that all customers have cars and are mobile. It is very difficult to walk to Envoy House if you are not mobile.
"We would like a survey by an independent body into the affects of the closure."
