Consumer group unhappy with mail

The regulator's report criticised Guernsey's postal service
The Guernsey Consumer Group claims the local mail service is still not good enough, despite recent attempts by Guernsey Post to improve its reliability and efficiency.

The Consumer Group has called on all States members to read the recent report by the Office of Utility Regulation.

It said they should learn the lessons of Post Office failures following commercialisation.

The performance of Guernsey Post was discussed at the Consumer Group's latest meeting.

Group members said they continued to be far from satisfied.

Mail 'delayed'

Post was still being delayed, and postal rounds and delivery methods had not yet returned to the pre-commercialisation standards of reliability and efficiency.

Members also expressed frustration with the way complaints about the service were being dealt with.

The group saw the end of the automated phone-answering system, which was demanded by the regulator, as one positive step.

The Group said its own investigation had produced a list of commercialisation "mistakes" which were bound to be repeated if the island's politicians failed to take action.
