Investigation backs post office closure
Guernsey Post's controversial decision to close its Arcade branch has been vindicated.

The Office of Utility Regulation (OUR) has decided the closure did not mean local people were left with an inferior service.

The OUR investigated complaints that the closure of the Arcade Post Office made life difficult for the people who normally used it.

But the OUR argued that services which had been available at the closed post office were also provided at other nearby businesses.

Statistical information

It also said the Smiths Street Post Office is close enough to ensure people are not inconvenienced.

However the OUR was not completely satisfied.

It noted that Guernsey Post was not able to give them enough customer statistics to justify why it had decided to close the Arcade office.

The OUR said it wants the firm to do more in future to collect statistical information on the needs of its customers.
