Post service given targets
Guernsey Post van
Guernsey Post says the targets are "tough but fair"

Guernsey Post has to aim for next day delivery of UK, Jersey and Bailiwick mail, according to the Office of Utility Regulation (OUR).

A target of 85% of mail posted first class in the UK being delivered locally the following day is achievable by 2005, the OUR believes.

The OUR said the targets provide a framework for a robust and transparent process, showing islanders the true levels of service they receive and ensuring regular improvements of that service year-on-year.

Guernsey Post has welcomed the targets, saying they are "tough but fair".

OUR Regulatory Manager Jon Buckland said: "The targets have been set at levels that are both challenging and achievable based on the information currently available.

"As information improves over time, the OUR will keep these targets under review and they may be adjusted."

Guernsey Post Managing Director Mike Hall said he is confident the targets can be achieved.

He said the company wishes to build a relationship of trust and openness with islanders.
