- Walk
Go for a walk when you don't really feel like it - it helps to clear the mind, and you usually feel better afterwards.
- Sugar
Stopping is easier than cutting down. It took me a week of hell - but then no problem. Food and drinks don't really need sugar added.
- Spray oil
Helps to control the amount of oil you use, you will be surprised how little you need. There is no need to add fat or oil, when cooking joints of meat, as they have their own.
- Physical Activity
Remember that you need to be fit to play squash, not play to get fit. I started with realistic activities which I enjoyed, and slowly built up a regime. I have now completed several World Experiences which involve trekking or cycling to raise money for heart research.
- Stairs
Use stairs instead of the lift. It's good for you, but not if there are 30 flights and you're in a suit with only two minutes to get to a meeting!
- Stress
Whilst it is natural, don't be a martyr. Let others know what bothers you - but only if you can trust them. Likewise, if you can recognize the symptoms in others be tactful and raise it with them.
- Sandwiches
If a filling is sloppy, there is no need for butter or margarine.
- 5 a day
Remember that juice forms one portion - whether fruit or vegetable juice.
- Alcohol
We should have other choices in the home. If you only have wine, you will drink it; if there is fruit juice, then it makes for a good alternative in the house.
- Tradition
Review your eating habits - most Welsh people eat most towards the end of the day, yet breakfast is the most important meal.
