آئیے اس بات کی وضاحت ایک مثال سے کرتے ہیں۔
ذیل میں ایک ہی عمل سے تعلق رکھنے والے چار مفرد جملے دئیے گئے ہیں:
The driver parked the car
The driver came out of the car

He locked the car
He went into a nearby house

اِن جملوں کو جوڑ کر ایک مرکب جملے میں تبدیل کرنے کا سادہ طریقہ تو یہ ہوگا:

The driver parked the car, came out of it, locked it and went into

a nearby house

چاروں اجزا جُڑ تو گئے ہیں اور گرامر کے لحاظ سے جملہ درست بھی ہے۔ لیکن ایک قدم مزید آگے بڑھایا جائے تو یہی جملہ بہت بہتر شکل اختیار کر سکتا ہے۔

Having parked the car, the driver got out and locked the car before going into a nearby house.

اور آئیے اب ایک طالب علم کی ڈائری میں سے یہ چند جملے پڑھتے ہیں۔
The bell rang. I ran out of school. I needed to get home early. I was meeting a friend.

اِن جملوں کو ملا کر ایک مرکب جملہ یقیناً بن سکتا ہے لیکن انھیں ملانے کے کئی طریقے ہو سکتے ہیں۔ چند امکانی طریقے ہم یہاں درج کر رہے ہیں لیکن ان میں سے صرف ایک جملہ ایسا ہے جو پوری طرح رواں دواں ہے اور جس میں خیال کا بہاؤ بالکل ہموار ہے۔

آپ بھی ان جملوں کو پڑھیئے اور بتائیے کہ آپکے خیال میں کِس جملے کے اجزاء باہم مربوط ہیں اور پڑھنے میں خوشگوار محسوس ہوتے ہیں۔

I was meeting a friend, so I ran out of school because I needed to be at home early, when the bell rang

Needing to get home early to meet a friend, I ran out of school as soon as the bell rang

I ran out of school after the bell rang because I was meeting a friend and I needed to get home early

اِن سبھی جملوں میں خیال تو ادا ہو گیا ہے لیکن جملہ (b) میں ایک ایسی جامعیت ہے جو دیگر جملوں میں ناپید ہے اس لئے ہم جملہ (b) کو بہترین مرکب جملہ قرار دیں گے۔

تو آئیے اب یہ پیرا گراف پڑھیےاور خالی جگہوں کو اسطرح پُر کیجئے کہ جملوں کی خوبصورتی اور جامعیت قائم رہے:

The rider fell off, __________ smashing into a fruit and vegetable stall, __________ immediately collapsed.
