An NHS report shows that more weight loss operations are being carried out in England than ever before. Operations to fit gastric bands and stomach stapling - procedures to restrict the amount of food people can comfortably eat are up 40 percent. It's a problem that affects all age groups. One in four adults is obese and the figures are rising for under 16s. Just under a fifth of children are obese. Health risks linked to obesity include cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Public health minister Dawn Primarolo said obesity was the "biggest health challenge" facing the country.
