The BBC's Rugby Special has returned to its Sunday afternoon slot.

The programme returns to a tried and tested formula from the 10 November Sunday Grandstand programme after last season going out on Thursday nights.

John Inverdale will once again host the show, aided by last season's presenters Jonathan Davies, Keith Wood and Jeremy Guscott.

Sunday Grandstand will now show either Rugby Special or live rugby with the weekly show's start times determined by other live events.

"The late night experiment rated well and some elements will be incorporated into the new show," said Pat Younge, head of the BBC's rugby strategy.

"But the clear message coming back from fans was that they wanted more highlights, and they wanted them on a Sunday afternoon - we have listened and we've delivered.

"With the entire Six Nations, autumn internationals, Heineken Cup and Powergen Cup, we now have the best live rugby portfolio in our history.

"The return of Rugby Special, is the final piece of the jigsaw."
