Disclaimer: The BBC will put up as many of your comments as possible but we cannot guarantee that all e-mails will be published. The BBC reserves the right to edit comments that are published. Fill in the form at the bottom of the page to send Albert into action. Darren, France Who is the most successful player to leave the English game for Italy? Without a doubt, John Charles, the great international centre-forward and centre-half. Juventus paid 65,000, then a British record, to sign him in 1957. He helped them win three Italian Championships and the Italian Cup, returning to Leeds (53,000) in July 1962. Now aged 70, John is still revered in Italy. They called him "Il Buon Gigante", "The Gentle Giant". Reggie Crabbe, England Is it true that Everton were relegated in season 1934-35? If so, how have they been in the top flight for 100 years? Everton ARE playing their 100th season in the top division, but not consecutive seasons. They were relegated from the old First Division in 1930 for one season, and again from 1951-54. Andi, England Who is Southend United's record signing? Stan Collymore figures twice in Southend's transfer records. He was their most expensive signing (750,000) from Crystal Palace in November 1992 and their record sale (3,750,000) to Nottingham Forest in June 1993. Terry Baron, England In which season did Matthew Le Tissier and Graeme Le Saux both play for Southampton? This never happened. His only registered clubs have been Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea again since 1997. Both players are from the Channel Islands, of course. Le Tiss was born in Guernsey, Le Saux in Jersey. Martin, England Who scored the only goal when Leeds beat Manchester United at home five years ago? That was 27 September 1997. Defender David Wetherall scored the goal that knocked Manchester United off the top of the Premier League table that day. It was their first defeat of the season. Nick Mason, UK How did Arsenal come to wear red shirts? When Arsenal were founded in 1886, some of their first players came from Nottingham Forest. They had virtually no money, so one of them, Fred Beardsley, wrote to his old club asking for some help - and Forest sent them a complete set of their teams shirts in red. Ross, Sale, Cheshire, England Can you shed some light on the situation at Wimbledon? Are they moving home and what's this newly-formed AFC Wimbledon? Wimbledon's move from Selhurst Park to Milton Keynes is scheduled to go ahead later this season or next summer. AFC Wimbledon is a new breakaway club formed by Dons fans in protest at the move. They play in the Combined Counties League, share Kingstonians' ground at Kingston and their manager is former Wimbledon player Terry Eames. Robin, UK In the Premiership, is there a rule which says that the number one shirt most belong to a goalkeeper, or can it be worn by an outfield player? Most clubs make their number one a goalkeeper, but there is no rule about if. If they wished, they could number their players in the alphabetical order of names. Mac, Brisbane, Australia After so nearly losing to the Faroe Islands, why has Scottish International football got in such a mess? Here's how Alan Hansen sums it up: "Too many foreign players in the SPL means not enough young talent is coming through. The situation won't improve until more players of quality are produced, and this is going to take time." Steve, England What are the rules about the number of balls that can be used during a game? I noticed that Reading have six or seven balls around the pitch ready for when the match ball gets hoofed into the crowd. We saw spare balls used in this summer's World Cup. In domestic games, both clubs must agree over this, and it is certainly a time-saver at a ground like Reading's which has a lot of space around the pitch. |
