Andrew Beadsworth

DOB:29.04.1967

Crew position:Helmsman
Shore job:Steering gear
Profession/trade:Professional sailor/Civil Engineer

Beadsworth's experience of top-level sailing dates to 1985 when, as an 18-year-old, he became World Youth Laser Champion.

Since then he has dedicated himself to match racing and the Soling Olympic Class in particular.

On a three-man team that included fellow GBR Challenge member Adrian Stead, Beadsworth finished fourth at the 1996 Olympics.

In Sydney he went into the Games with a realistic hope of winning a medal before finishing 12th.

The 35-year-old has helmed in Admirals Cup and Southern Cross teams and also finished third in the 1999 Sydney-Hobart.

He will be a key member of the afterguard.
