| Royal Ascot: Day One All the action from the first day of Flat racing's big meeting, where Rock of Gibraltar won the feature race, the St James' Palace Stakes. 1730 BST Balmoral Handicap (5f) Martin Dwyer claimed his second victory of the day when Zargus edged out the favourite Fire Up The Band in the final race of the day. Thundering Surf 11-1 Distance: neck, 2 1620 BST Coventry Stakes (6f) Trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Mick Kinane combined successfully yet again as the favourite Statue of Liberty took the Coventry Stakes. Statue of Liberty 5-2f Distance: neck, 3 1545 BST St James' Palace Stakes (1m): Another stunning victory by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's horse Rock of Gibraltar, his fifth Group One success in a row. Ridden by Mick Kinane, the winner travelled smoothly, taking up the lead on the outside with about a furlong to go and he never looked in any danger after that. He left his Ballydoyle stablemate Landseer, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, trailing in his wake and the win follows his English and Irish 2000 Guineas double earlier this year. 1. Rock of Gibraltar 4-5f Distance: 1, 4 1505 BST King's Stand Stakes (5f): Dominica, the only three-year-old in the race, won to give jockey Martin Dwyer his first ever Royal Ascot success. Dominica challenged throughout the short race and stayed ahead of second-placed Continent, ridden by Darryl Holland who came from way down the field. The much-fancied Kyllachy just could not catch up and finished third. 1. Dominica 16-1 Distance: hd, 1430 BST Queen Anne Stakes (1m): Trainer Sir Michael Stoute got his third Queen Anne Stakes in a row as Johnny Murtagh guided No Excuse Needed to victory in a photo-finish. No Excuse Needed moved into the lead with a couple of furlongs to go as Tillerman, ridden by Richard Hughes, broke through. But Murtagh managed to hold off the challenge to edge out his rival. 1.
