Down start with defeat
Ryan Mellon of Tyrone is chased by Fermanagh's Justin Gilheaney
Tyrone's Ryan Mellon in action against Fermanagh
Paddy O'Rourke got off to a losing start as manager of Down in Sunday's Dr McKenna Cup.

His side lost by 1-15 to 3-7 to an understrength Armagh outfit in the quarter-final which was switched to Ballykinlar.

But the young understudies did the business with Liam O'Hare top-scoring with six points, all from frees.

For Down, Ronan Murtagh was their top marksman with a goal and five points. Dan Gordon and Anthony Devlin also found the back of the net for O'ROurke's side.

Donegal, with Brian McEniff back in charge, lost 1-13 to 2-9 to Cavan at Ballyshannon.

Dermot McCabe was the chief destroyer with seven points while Jason Reilly chipped in with a goal and three points for the Breffni men.

For Donegal, Brian McLaughlin and Adrian Sweeney scored second-half goals.

In the delayed first round tie at Brewster Park, Tyrone beat Fermanagh 1-13 to 1-11.

Mark Harte nipped in with a goal and three points for the winners while Raymond Gallagher had the same return for the Ernemen.

Derry's game against Monaghan at Ballinascreen was postponed.
