But Tyrone replied with five unanswered scores to lead 0-5 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.

Pascal Canavan hit Tyrone's two opening scores while his brother Peter knocked over the first of his six points.

However O'Hara showed the force of his will by reducing Tyrone's lead to three points in the 12th minute with a superb run and shot.

But the Tyrone dominance continued until the 25th minute when Peter Canavan's third point of the day left the Ulster side 0-9 to 0-3 ahead.

O'Hara then produced one of the crucial passages of play in the match by storming up the field to slot over a marvellous score.

The point seemed to rally his colleagues.

Mark Brehony and the excellent Darragh McGarty pointed to leave Tyrone only a goal ahead and Ciaran Quinn then could levelled the match but he hammered his pointblank goal chance over the bar.

With the Tyrone defence coming under pressure, managers Art McCrory and Eugene McKenna introduced Ciaran Gourley at half-time for corner-back Conor Gormley who had been booked.

Chris Lawn: Involved in crucial moment

After Peter Canavan hit the first score of the second half, Darragh McGarty then had a pointblank goal chance which would have levelled the match but he skied his shot over the bar for a point.

Tyrone seemed to be punishing the miss when Canavan then hit two points in as many minutes to extend the Ulster side's lead to four.

But the outstanding O'Hara knocked over a towering point to reduce Tyrone's lead to three again.

Sligo once again showed an ability to open up the Tyrone defence in the 44th minute but with the goal gaping, Gerry McGowan pulled his shot wide with goalkeeper Peter Ward beaten.

However, Sligo's heads didn't drop and McGowan quickly pointed to cut Tyrone's advantage to two points.

A controversial moment then arrived in the 53rd minute when referee John Bannon adjudged Chris Lawn to have overheld possession when he appeared to have been fouled.

Free-taker Sloyane accepted the chance and left the minimum between the sides.

A towering score from McGarty then levelled the match in the 56th minute as the Sligo support sensed that an upset was on the cards.

No Tyrone conviction

The momentum was now firmly with Sligo with Tyrone losing all the key individual battles in the contest.

But the key moment of the match had a moment of good fortune for Sligo with Sloyane reacting to hammer the ball to the roof of the net after McGowan's towering effort had come back off an upright.

The goal put Sligo three points ahead and in truth, Tyrone never appeared to have the conviction to fight back from the blow.

Further Paul Durkan and Sloyane points left Sligo five clear at the finish.
