Antrim 2-12 Tipperary 1-25

Ulster champions Antrim made their All Ireland exit as holders Tipperary went through to the semi-finals.

But it was not the landslide many had anticipated.

Antrim had led by 2-6 to 10 points at half-time thanks to goals from Liam Watson and Liam Richmond.

But Tipperary, the All Ireland champions powered ahead in the second half, scoring one goal and 15 points to Antrim's six points.

'Heads high'

"Tipperary moved into a different gear and we just were not able to cope," said Antrim manager Dinny Cahill.

"But we can hold our heads high.

"This is a young team, some of the lads are only 19.

"We have come a long way in seven months.

"I feel these fellows can improve and that there is an All Ireland final in them."

The teams were level as half-time approached but then the ball found Richmond in space and he hammered it into the net for Antrim's second goal.

Late goal

Earlier Liam Watson, Paddy Richmond, Gregory Kane and Brian McFall had all been on target with points for Antrim.

Watson's goal came in the 17th minute when his free went in off the Tipp keper.

Tipperary's goal came late on through Eugene O'Neill.

Antrim finished the game with 14 men as Connor Cunningham picked up his second booking of the afternoon.

But the Saffrons were lucky Watson had not been sent-off earlier.

The 19-year-old got off with a yellow card after striking an opponent.

Clare 1-15 0-17 Galway

Clare provided a shock in the second part of the Croke Park hurling double-header when they defeated Galway by a single point.

It was the accuracy of Connie Lynch that proved the difference when he rattled over the winning point in injury-time to seal victory.
