| Friday, 8 November, 2002, 17:24 GMT Woking appoint Cockerill Glenn Cockerill has been appointed the new manager of Nationwide Conference strugglers Woking. The 43-year old accepted the job after spending nearly a month as acting manager following ex-boss Geoff Chapple's decision to part company with the club. Former Southampton midfielder Cockerill takes over with Woking second from bottom of the league and with just one win in 14 games. The Grimsby-born boss arrived at the Kingfield Stadium in January 2000 as player-coach after spells coaching at Fulham and Crystal Palace. Cockerill's assistant manager will be Matt Crossley, a former Wycombe and Kingstonian defender. The new manager wasted no time in making his first purchase, with the signing of French striker Raphael Nade. "Raphael is a good forward and should give us more power up front", Cockerill told the club's official website. |
