Barca go for Hasselbaink

Barca want to pair Hasselbaink with Kluivert
Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has insisted that his club are in talks to sign Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink from Chelsea.

Gaspart said Barca were keen to pair Hasselbaink with his Holland team-mate Patrick Kluivert but insisted they will only do business if the price is right.

"We are in talks with Hasselbaink's people. We are interested in signing him and we think he will be complementary to Kluivert," Gaspart told The Sun newspaper.

If a club the size of Barcelona comes in you have to be interested

"He could be the piece we need in our team but it depends on the economic aspects."

Hasselbaink admitted after Chelsea's 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Friday that he would be interested in a move to the Nou Camp if a bid was made.

"I'm a professional and I want to play at the highest level, so if a club the size of Barcelona comes in you have to be interested," he said.

Hasselbaink's agent Humphrey Nijman claimed on Sunday that there had been no contact between Barca and his client about a reported 7m move.

"Jimmy loves Chelsea and loves the fans and London is a great city," said Nijman.

"It is all speculation and Jimmy has no reason to consider a move at this moment."

Hasselbaink's departure would be a major blow to Chelsea, who would have little time to secure a replacement before the transfer window closes on Saturday.

The player's Chelsea and Holland team-mate - and former Barcelona star - Boudewijn Zenden pleaded with him to stay, but it looks like his appeal could be in vain.

Zenden said: "Of course we want to keep Jimmy. You want to build on the players you have got."
