The 22-year-old signed a four-year deal at Ninian Park on Friday after passing a medical and expressed his delight with the move.

"There were a couple of First Division sides who were interested, but I didn't think they would have taken me any further," he said.

"When I knew Cardiff had been in contact I was keen to come down here.

"I spoke to the chairman (Sam Hammam) and he sold it to me really well. He has big plans for the club and I'm sure we'll be looking to perform a bit better this season than last - especially for the fans.

"I know they really get behind the team and are really passionate. Hopefully, I'll play well and they'll get behind me too."

Barker said it was unfortunate that he had to leave Barnsley, but financial constraints had forced the club's hand.

"In being relegated to Division Two they had to get rid of some players, and I was one of them," he said.

"Lucky enough, Cardiff came in for me and I am happy to be here."

Barker, who is expected to cost around �600,000 if Cardiff earn promotion, joins Bradford midfielder Gareth Whalley as a newcomer to the Bluebirds squad. But the signings may not stop there.
