Broomes linked with Cardiff
Marlon Broomes
Marlon Broomes scored for Grimsby at Anfield
Sheffield Wednesday defender Marlon Broomes is reported to be interesting Cardiff City.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Hillsborough and, despite helping them to escape relegation, is unlikely to be offered a new deal.

Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence is well aware of Broomes' talents.

He took him to Grimsby on loan earlier in the season and saw the former England under-21 international score one of the goals in the Mariners' shock Worthington Cup win at Liverpool.

Broomes, who began his career at Blackburn Rovers, would likely jump at the chance to be reunited with Lawrence, who would not comment on the reports.

The Bluebirds, who have again pledged not to sell any of their young players, are also said to be trailing Barnsley's Kevin Donovan - another former Grimsby player.

Meanwhile, Cardiff midfielder Des Hamilton will not need an operation to cure a troublesome thigh problem, but defender Scott Young is still awaiting a decision on his groin injury.
