Robert Douglas - A clean sheet will be a boost for the goalkeeper's confidence after his nightmare in the Old Firm derby. Struggled with a couple of crosses and will still be under pressure for Celtic and his country. 6 Maurice Ross - The young Rangers defender still does not look totally comfortable as a wing-back. Recovered from a shaky start to produce some dangerous runs down the right flank, crossing for Gary Naysmith to score the second goal. 6 Gary Naysmith - Produced the cross for Scotland's opening goal after a bright start in the left wing-back role. Found it more difficult in a more forward position after an injury to Jackie McNamara. But the Everton man sprung to prominence again with an excellent first touch and striker's finish for the second goal. 8
Steven Pressley - Showed typical commitment on his return to the Scotland defence the day after his 29th birthday. There remained some moments of misunderstanding with Dailly and Wilkie under pressure, but he put in some crucial challenges and his organisational skills settled the defence after the break. 8 Lee Wilkie - The 22-year-old did not look out of place on the international stage so soon after his return from being frozen out at Dundee. Put in a few vital challenges as he won his second cap. 7 Barry Ferguson - Started brightly but may have still been suffering from the hip injury that made him a pre-match doubt. Fell out the game and did not command the midfield as he does for Rangers. 6 Paul Lambert - Had one of his best games of the season after labouring with Celtic. Was more destructive than creative until a sweeping crossfield ball that led to Scotland's second goal.7
Steve Thompson - The Dundee United striker had his best game in a Scotland jersey, his tenacity and wholehearted play keeping the Icelandic defence under constant pressure. 8 Steve Crawford - Combined well with Thompson. The Dunfermline Athletic striker's speed and clever running was a constant threat. But he missed the target on the couple of occasions he found an opening for himself.7 Callum Davidson - Replaced Jackie McNamara after 34 minutes. The Leicester City defender was quietly efficient. 6 Scott Severin - The Hearts midfielder came on for Steve Crawford after 89 minutes and did not have time to become involved in the game. Russell Anderson - Aberdeen defender won his first cap, replacing Gary Naysmith in injury time. |
