Stockport 2-1 Wycombe

Well-taken first-half goals from Luke Beckett and Neil Ross proved enough for Stockport as they eased their relegation fears with a win over Wycombe.

The Hatters started better and deservedly took the lead after 10 minutes against their higher-placed opponents.

Leading scorer Beckett rounded goalkeeper Martin Taylor to bag his 14th goal of the season.

Promising 20-year-old striker Neil Ross, making his first league appearance of the season, extended County's advantage after 39 minutes.

He timed his run to perfection to slot the ball home from a teasing Beckett cross from the left.

The hosts should have added more goals in the second half with Beckett and left-winger Keith Briggs going close.

Wycombe had good chances to get themselves back into the game but County goalkeeper Lee Jones was rarely tested throughout a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.

But the Chairboys pulled a goal back to set up a nerve-wracking finish.

Lewis Cook's corner was met sweetly by substitute Roger Johnson with three minutes remaining, but County held on for an important victory.

Stockport: Jones, Gibb, Palmer, Challinor, Tonkin, Lescott, McLachlan, Ross, Briggs, Beckett, Fradin. Subs: Blayney, Goodwin, Hardiker, Lambert, Daly.

Wycombe: Taylor, Rogers, Anderson, Thomson, McCarthy, Brown, Cook, Bulman, Ryan, Devine, Rammell. Subs: Johnson, Lee, Faulconbridge, Harris, Dixon.

Referee: E Ilderton (Tyne & Wear)
