Chesterfield kept up their impressive home record with a narrow 1-0 victory over struggling Huddersfield.

The only goal of the game from defender Kevin Dawson meant the Spireites have now gone 12 hours without conceding a goal at their Saltergate fortress.

Dawson struck in the 33rd minute when he forced the ball home from close range after Dwayne Mattis had failed to clear a Rob Edwards corner.

It was no more than the home side deserved after Mark Allott, then Glynn Hurst had earlier gone close.

The Terriers rallied after the break and finally tested Chesterfield goalkeeper Carl Muggleton in the 52nd minute when Martin Smith's low drive was well saved.

But the visitors' best chance to draw level came seven minutes from time when Kenny Irons' quickly taken free-kick hit the post.

Soon afterwards John Thorrington put the rebound wide with the goal at his mercy.

The result leaves Huddersfield languishing in the bottom four and heaps more pressure onto the shoulders of manager Mick Wadsworth, who faced calls for his head after the game.
