| Friday, 26 April, 2002, 12:45 GMT 13:45 UK Saib's tale of woe Algeria's match with France was marred by violence Moussa Saib has accused Algeria manager Rabah Madjer of prematurely ending his international career. Excluded from the Desert Warriors side that played France last October, the former captain said Madjer's decision to leave him out remains an "open wound."
"I really thought I would be called for that special game, considering what I have done with the national team over the last ten years. "But he never called me and I did not even get a ticket for the game. "I was not injured and I played for Monaco in a game against Piacenza on the same day," Saib told BBC Sport Online. Following his exclusion from that match, Moussa decided to end his international career. History Saib, who had a stint in the English Premiership with Tottenham Hotspur, said he plans to end his football career in June 2003. "I want to complete my two year contract with Monaco and then I will retire from the game.
"I'm 33, and at this age, I am not as agile as an 18 year old. "Over time, I've learnt to control my efforts. "But there's a time to quit. I want to dedicate my whole time to my family," the Algerian said. Saib, who plays for Lorient in the French first division, said he would be keen on youth coaching as a new career. "I would like to remain involved in football, by helping the youth in Algeria." | See also: 23 Mar 01 | Africa 05 Jul 01 | Africa 25 Apr 02 | Nigeria Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
