![]() | Madjer takes over Algerian reins ![]() Madjer (right), played for Africa veterans in February. Rabah Madjer, one of African football's all-time greats, has started his second spell as coach of the Algerian national team. He takes over from Abdelghani Jeddaoui who resigned after Algeria's 5-2 defeat against Egypt in a Cup of Nations qualifier in Cairo earlier this year. Prior to Madjer's appointment Hamid Zouba, head of national teams, and technical adviser Mircea Radulescu, were temporarily in charge of the squad.
Madjer, 42, had a short stint in charge of the Desert Warriors before resigning on national television in October 1999, citing a dispute with the North African country's sporting authorities over his three-year contract. Outstanding player As a player Madjer holds the Algerian record of six appearances at Cup of Nations finals, having made his debut in 1978. He was a member of the successful 1990 team which is the only Algerian side to have won the Cup of Nations.
