He tested positive for the prohibited substance Nandrolone at the Nations Cup in Mali. The sample, taken on 30 January, was sent to a laboratory in Switzerland. It confirmed the defender, who plays for Bari in Italy, had taken the performance-enhancing drug. Caf's ban takes effect from the date he was tested and ends on 30 July. It will therefore not prevent him from playing in the next competitive match for his country, the 2004 Nations Cup qualifiers which begin in September. But he could face a tougher penalty from elsewhere. The Egyptian FA, his club and Fifa have all been informed of Caf's decision and could take action themselves. | See also: 05 Mar 02 | Football 03 Mar 02 | Africa 17 Mar 02 | Africa Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
