African football's ruling body, Caf, said it will punish Egyptian player Hany Said for failing a drug test at the African Nations Cup.

"Caf's organising committee will meet on 15 March to decide the punishment to give the player," Hosni Abdelrahman, head of Caf's medical commitee, told BBC Sport Online.

Use of drugs is something just creeping into African football, so caution is important."

He said in the telephone interview that the player's second urine sample confirmed the result of the first.

Traces of the banned anabolic steroid, nandrolone, were found in both samples, Abdelrahman added.

He would not give a hint of what punishment awaits the defender, with Italian club Bari FC.

Sensitive issue

Said stands to face, at least, a year's suspension from the sport.

Abdelrahman admitted there had been an unusual delay before making public the results of the second sample.

The result of the first test was known after Egypt's Nations Cup first round group game against Senegal.

The Egyptians lost that CAN 2002 match 1-0 at the Mali

"Use of drugs in sport is a sensitive issue," Abdelrahman said.

"And this is something just creeping into African football, so caution is important."

Zambian player Rotson Kilambe is also awaiting a Fifa punishment for failing a dope test last year.
