Watson and Robson into doubles quarter-finals

Watson won the US Junior Open singles title in 2009

Guernsey's Heather Watson and doubles partner Laura Robson are through to the quarter-finals of the Dothan Pro-Classic Tennis event in Alabama.

They duo beat the American pairing of Abigail Spears and Coco Wanderweghe in straight sets 6-4 7-6.

The pair will now play the tournament's third seeds, Edina Gallovits and Shenay Perry, on Thursday evening.

Watson is also set to play Russia's Evgeniya Rodina in the second round of singles on Thursday.

Watson, who reached a new career high in the women's singles rankings of 353 earlier in the week, beat American Lindsay Lee-Waters 6-7(7) 6-3 6-0 in the first round on Wednesday.
