Victory for Heather Watson in Tangipahoa qualifiers

Guernsey's Heather Watson has reached the first round proper of the senior Tangipahoa $25,000 Tennis Classic in Hammond, Louisiana.

She beat India's Shikha Uberoi 6-1 6-4 to become one of eight qualifiers to reach the tournament.

Watson joins fellow Britons Melanie South and Naomi Broady in the 32-woman singles draw, which is due to take place on Tuesday.

Watson and Cheshire's Broady are teaming up in doubles.
