Watson faces the third seed Ksenia Pervak in the quarter-finals
Guernsey's Heather Watson has said she is hoping to make the Australian Open girl's singles semi-finals after winning her last-16 match on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old beat Japan's world junior number 27 Miyabi Inoue 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals.
She will next face Russian number three seed Ksenia Pervak but said her aim is to keep on winning matches.
"I know I can get further and I really want to push onto the next level," she told BBC Guernsey.
Watson is in the opposite side of the draw to fellow British star Laura Robson and she said the pair are helping each other through the event.
"It's great that both of us are through, two British girls. We're good friends so we can push each other along and support each other."
And Watson said the punishing Melbourne heat, which has already led to the retirement of last year's men's champion Novak Djokovic, is hard to deal with.
"The conditions were really harsh today. I think it went up to 44 degrees and the heat was burning through my shoes.
"But I just had to keep it going and I'm really proud that I came out on top and won. I've never played in weather this hot and I found it quite difficult today."
