Guernsey's Heather Watson has been knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the Notting Hill Junior ITF Tournament in Melbourne, Australia. Watson, who was the fifth seed, lost 6-3 6-2 to Romania's world junior number three Elena Bogdan. The Guernsey teenager will now focus on preparing for the junior Australian Open which starts on Saturday.
Fellow Briton, junior Wimbledon winner Laura Robson, also reached the last eight before going out in three sets. In round three, on Tuesday, Watson beat Japanese 12th seed Miyabe Inoue 6-1 6-3. Watson beat Kyra Shroff from India in straight sets following a tie-break in the second 6-1 7-6 (7-4) on Monday. In the first round she lost the first set to Olivia Rich, from Australia, before fighting back to win 2-6 6-3 6-1. The teenager went out in the first round of the doubles with Canadian partner Eugenie Bouchard to Czech pairing Martina Borecka and Martina Kubicikova 6-1 6-1.
